No road tax on used car

Don't know if this is the right forum for this. I am going to view a used car from a private seller, this would be the first car, however, there's not road tax on the said car. Can I still get to test drive it since it's not suppose to be on the road?

Technically you shouldn't have a car on the road without road tax regardless if you are test driving or not (well, without trade plates you shouldn't)
