ECU for a 2003 Ford Fusion

My wife's Ford Fusion decided to die about a month ago and has been sitting in a Ford "specialists" ever since. They have diagnosed the problem that the Siemens ECU has completely died and needs to be replaced. If it was a Bosch it could have been repaired I'm told - typical.

They have not been able to source a 2nd hand ECU for me and at this stage we are contemplating forking out the €800 for a new one. As a last resort I just want to inquire if anyone knows anyone that supplies reconditioned Siemens ECU's. I have the part numbers to make sure that they correlate.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

I know this happened to my sister's Ford Focus and it only cost 500 to be fixed at a main dealer!

I posted a similar problem a few months back with our trusty old Puma:

Firstly I would say be very cautious of anything anyone tells you about ECU's. I was told variously to scrap the car, it was irrepairable etc. Even when I contacted ECU/Electrical 'specialists' I was told things that turned out to be nonsense.

I sent it to this crowd for about €20 postage and they repaired my old ECU, confirmed it was the coil pack spike, I fitted everything back myself and off I went. All in all it cost me about €270 for the repair and coil pack, I was quoted €1000 by Ford...

OP be vary wary of anyone who tells you that an ECU has failed.. Ive been around for a while and just today I was told that the ECU was failed on an XJ6 Jag... The problem was a faulty fuel pump relay...

Its sommit simple for sure.. If you change out the ECU then I can bet that wont sort the problem... !

Too many numptys in garages now .. Total cowboys.... !

I went through everything on mine and could here the pump prime when the ignition was turned but also disconnected the fuel lines on both sides of the filter to confirm there was no blockage, not sure if this is the same on the Fusion. If it just turns over and over it could be the ECU. There was no ignition signal reaching the coil pack on ours upon attempting to start.
