Text editor for iMac

I just got my new iMac yesterday and I've run in to problems transferring my iTunes library from my PC. I had the iTunes library backed up on an external hard drive, and have copied to the correct folder on the iMac but iTunes won't load the library.

Having looked into it a bit I think the problem is that the paths in the library XML file are for PC and are a different structure to what's needed for iMac, so I need to edit the XML file to change tha path (removing the drive letter, which isn't used on macs).

I've never used text editors before - could someone point me in the right direction to get one? Or is one included on the iMac already which will do the job?

There is the built in TextEdit, which will do the job but make sure you are editing in plain text mode (option is under the format menu).

There's also TextWrangler(Free) and the excellent TextMate (50 euros) but they are overkill methinks!

Surely there's a better way though!

easiest way to do this that I can see:

cannect the hard drive to the mac & browse to the folder you have the music (mp3?) files in. there are prob diff folders in here for each artist

    open itunes

drag the whole folder onto the Library section of the itunes window

it will take a while depending on how many files there are but at least itunes will auto organise them on the mac for you.
