    Hi Jimbo,

    Try this one out
Hotel Golden Roma - Via Marche 84, 00187 Rome, Italy |
    Tel.+39.06.4821659 Fax+39.06.4821660
    info@hotelgoldenrome.com

I stayed there in June 2009 and it is a really nice hotel and is close to the gardens of Villa Borghese (across road) and all the main attractions are only 10-15 mins walk away. I picked it from all the very positive reviews on Trip Advisor and wasn't disappointed.

All rooms are ensuite and have A/C. Breakfast was included and there was a great selection of food on offer.

I can't remember what I paid but it wasn't overly expensive, maybe €60 per room per night but not sure. I remember it being good value for such a central location. They're very receptive to email and any queries I had were answered very promptly.

Wherever you end up staying you will have a great time, Rome is a wonderful city....but very hot and make sure you bring comfy walking shoes...enjoy :)

I haven't stayed here, but read great things about it in a travel magazine and it gets good reviews on Trip Advisor:

    http://www.bluehostel.it/Home.html

Don't panic by the word 'hostel', it seems to have hotel ammenities at hostel prices. It's seriously cheap though, so it books out quite a bit in advance. I hope to get back to Rome next year and will be definitly be booking this place.

Hi Jimbo I am in the same boat and getting really frustrated, all the reviews on trip advisor are so varied and the recommended ones are pretty much all gone. If anyone has stayed in a place near the spanish steps trevi fountain and would recommend that would be great. I had spotted one place but they obviously knew I was interested so the price went up by €200 overnight! the house always wins!

I don't know what your budget is but look at this:
    http://www.smeraldoroma.com/inglese/hotel.htm
They appear to have doubles for 80-90 euros, and you won't find anything cheaper unless it's a hostel.
Neither do I know what reviewers have said. I do know that several of my friends have stayed here with no complaints. The rooms are small, but then many hotel rooms in the centre are small - the streets are so small!
This is in the Campo de' Fiori area, famous for its tiny streets and shops. It's just across the river from Trastevere, another historic area. So much better than areas around the main station or near the Via Veneto, where you are getting away from the "real" Rome.

James yer probably sorted but if not I found a great deal at Via Veneto Roma- looks class from the website- and book through booking.com or easyclick to get a lower rate. Haven't obviously stayed there yet but all good reviews on trip advisor so it should be ok
