A couple of years ago Premiership players were surveyed about the songs they listened to before a match and "Lose Yourself" by Eminen was the most popular.

In my opinion, this is all a load of tosh! The days of chest beating and "Any Given Sunday" speeches is over. Guys on a way to a match should be quietly thinking about the game. A dressing room should be another quiet place with one short (and I mean 60 seconds short) speech by the manager and thats it.
Paul Kimmage has a great quote from the day he quit the Tour de France and retired as a Professional Cyclist. "With weak legs and a strong head, you have a chance, with strong legs and a weak head, you have no chance. I cycled out of Toulouse with a weak head"
Another one from a guy who played for Ulster from our club. " You need to be physically fit and mentally fit. One can take 6 months one can take 6 minutes. The 6 minutes are harder"

But if you had to twist my arm, I used to listen to "Ecstasy of Gold" from Metallica's S&M!

I know 'Eye of the Tiger' is the cheesiest choice you could think of, but I still remember how wound up I got listening to it before a rowing race in my younger days. It certainly did the trick (it was an eight though, so I can't take all the credit myself).

Don't know if it would have a different impact over 90mins of a hurling/football match (you don't say which you're talking about) than a 6 minute rowing race, though.

Jaysis, would you just throw on a few rebel songs, they delve right into our psyche and anyone not up for it after listening to a song like "Go on Home" by Éire óg doesn't deserve to play Gaelic Games! ;)
