Hey guys, have a 2.0 d4d corolla. Ran out of fuel and put 5 litres in but won't start so I guess the fuel system is air locked or something. Is there anything I can do to get it going or will I need to call a mechanic?

    Might just need more fuel.

Someone very kindly brought us back an S40 2.0d with very little fuel. Put 5 litres in before taking it out of the garage, but it conked out on the road in the estate on the way to the petrol station.

Had to take another to fill 2 fuel cans and it took them both before it eventually started. I did check with a dealer and that had an auto primer so no need to bleed. If it needs bleeding of air there should be instructions in the manual.

Ok will try extra diesel, I tried to turn it over for ages last night. Just need to find a lift to get out to it. It's stuck on the motorway hard shoulder all night.

just loosen one of the injectors on the top of the engine , turn the engine over till fuel is spurting from the loosened injector and bobs your uncle , tighten injector and away you go . very simple

I did that to get my Focus going but got many verbal slaps on the wrist here on Boards since that seems a No No with modern diesels.
    Handle with care.

+1 on more fuel - no need to bleed.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DO THIS.

i can't believe people are still trying this on modern high pressure diesels.

it's something i do to my old tractor.

you can't do it nowadays to any diesel engine because you will f*ck the injectors and prob engine.

you can only do this on old rotary style pump engines. not electronic high pressure pump systems such as d4d crdi cdti etc.
