Chugging Engine

Hope someone can help us here. I have a Skodia Fabia which I bought new in 2004. Its been a great car for me, recently been serviced and passed its 2nd NCT. But this week its been chugging a bit, like a little 'pull' in the engine. My hubby took it for a drive and thinks maybe its dirty petrol. I'll be driving to the airport next weekend and really don't want it to sit down on me. Anyone know if hubby is right, or is it a more serious problem?

Could be dirty petrol, or could be faulty MAF sensor.
Is there any warning light appearing the dash.
Has your husband checked the air breather, could be as simple as
a loose/cracked pipe letting too much air in to the air breather.

Which engine is in the car? 1.2, 1.4 or diesel?

Does it chug under acceleration, or does it idle lumpy as well?

My first thought was a coil, but I'm not sure if that effects all the engine versions.
