I'm wondering if there are any courses in between the foundation in counselling/psychotherapy and the diploma in counselling/psychotherapy?

Generally the hierarchy of courses goes:
    Foundation
    Certificate
    Diploma
    Degree
    PG Dip
    MA /MSc
    PhD

Not always in that order. Depends on who's running the course. Can go Foundation - Dip or Cert - Dip.

Of course, it depends on who is doing the accrediting! Accreditation by a university is worth more than any qualification offered by a private enterprise.

(Can sell a very nicely designed degree from the University of JuliusCaesar - cheap! Or of course there are lots of internet degrees you can buy. I DON'T CONDONE THIS BTW!! :p)

Thanks.. To clarify I'm looking for a recommendation for a counselling/pscyhotherapy course that is between the cert and diploma....one that might help further should I decide to do the diploma in the future. Once it's counselling/pschyotherapy related...will consider CBT courses etc.... I'm just wondering how you find out what's out there along these line.?

Hey, I completed a basic foundation in counselling which introduced you to the basic course and outlined counselling. GMIT Castlebar and Galway offer the course over a ten week period, which costed about less than 200 euro, with allowance for those who were unemployed. Then you can pick up from that and do a Foundation in Counselling. The Foundation course is credited from NUI Maynooth. Fees do apply and you must be over the age of 23, this must be done to contuine on with the three year course (part-time of full- time) From my research in Mayo, the Foundation Course can be done in Ballina, Castlebar, and or Galway. I hope that you find this info of some use and best of luck with it all :)

Thanks but it's something after the foundation & before the diploma that I am looking to find information on.... any shorter courses or the likes or courses on specific therapies or theories might suffice....to do before doing the diploma..?

    Hi there-

I did the Foundation Course with Norman Wardens GCC in Furbo Galway.
Then I got accepted to the MSc in Psychotherapy in DCU ( which coincidently is postponed until next year ).
I have a fair bit of concentrated experience around trauma issues and did tonnes of research into various courses.
In 2011 University of Limerick are offering their Grad Dip / Masters in Psychotherapy ( basically the first two years you leave with the Grad Dip..and can move towards the Msc in the next two years ). It is said to be an excellent course.
Tivoli has trained quite a few of my therapist friends and has a very good reputation.
    Hope this helps!
