VK Golf, Alternator / Battery?

    Hey lads,

Having a pain in the ass with this one.

Few weeks ago my TDI Golf MK5 (2005) had a sticking pulley on the alternator so left it in with a local mechanic to get sorted. It came back, minus the noise, but with a bitch of a ticking sound coming outta it. Mechanic said it would go away but "it'll got for another 10 years!"

..... yeeeeaaaaaa, so Saturday morning battery light pops on which means alternator fault.

Went to a friend mechanic instead and he replaced the alternator instead with a second hand one from a place out in swords. Battery light stays on and battery is slowly dying.

Any ideas how I can track down the problem? Its unlikely two alternators not charging at all right?

AA be able to tell anything with their computer? Alt output or anything show up on that?

    Cheers in advance :pac:

Could it just be the battery is dead?

I had a 00 Yaris which in 2006 or so just would not hold a charge. Also I read that if a battery drains fully it wont charge fully again.

Having said the the ticking noise is odd.

So had the AA out this morning to have a look. Looks like a the cow boy who was at the alternator last time blew the blade fuse on the buzzbar.
So naturally, rather than replace it... he just shorted the two poles with a mixture of some copper wire, tinfoil and some tape!

Ordered the new 200 AMP fuse from VW today, will have it by 4pm.
AA dude reckons this could be it. What ya think?

Hooked the laptop up this morning before AA arrived and the alternator was producing a current but it was 'implausible' according to the error code!:o It was 11.5v if i recall

The readings say its producing a current, but its 'implausible' and only 11.5
