I bought a 3V voucher today and it turned out the flight i wanted to use it for was cheaper today than yesterday, so i now have €18 left on it.

Who has an idea as to how i can spend it?

One of these and some ammo. We got two of them in the house awhile back and they're great fun. Really good size, strong as hell and they can fire the darts a fair distance.

OP, is this 3V thing useful to have? There is a pre-paid master card. Anyone suggest which is better!?

if you could top it up online instead of running to a shop to top it up it would be however that completely destroys the point in having one so no

Its definately handy but its far from ideal!

It's getting better though. You can get the 3V vouchers in a lot more shops these days.

So you can't get it topped up online? Is the other one topped up online so? Are there certain charges on the 3V? Is there restrictions where you can buy stuff with it either in shops/online or abroad like?

I had considered getting one, but can't decide between the 3v and pre-paid mastercard. Which you recommend?

They're quite a nuisance really. And the fees are ridiculous. You always have to buy the vouchers rounding up to the nearest 10, to be on the safe side, as they don't offer any leeway should currency rates change and you're a cent or two short for your purchase.

Ulster Bank has a Visa Debit card which is much handier than 3V, as the money comes straight from your bank account (it's accepted everywhere Visa Credit Card is accepted).
I used to hate those prepaid cards because of the ridiculous fees. And the €4 that was always left in 3V Vouchers that you could do nothing about.

Can you get the Ulster Bank visa debit card even if you are with another bank? does the visa debit card do the same thing as a pre-paid credit card unlike a laser card?

I don't think so, because UB are replacing existing cards with this new card, so I'd say it's for their own customers.

some pretty valid points here, which is why it's not ideal.

And is also why i have €18 left because i had to over-spend on the voucher just in case!

You get charged if you want the balance back, you get charged if you want to transfer money to another card, you get charged for buying a voucher.

I scratched my arse while using it and got charged for that too!

That Visa Debit Card sounds ideal. Any idea whether AIB do anything like that?

I'm with Bank Of Ireland. The laser is mastercard its same as a debit card. Would it be any different to the visa debit card so?
