What happens if you don't pay it, is it considered a criminal or a civil matter?

Looks like we'll need a Good Friday Agreement II to get you out (and others) of this predicament.

Other options? Learn spanish, grow a mustache and run to Paraguay.

If they have your home address, I'd pay up. Better then having a summons against your name in the UK, or possibly a debt collection agency on your back down here!:confused:

Short answer is: if you dont pay, dont get caught by the PSNI in the north again, as itll go down as an unpaid fine & chances are a court summons will head your way...

Nope! Unless you want the bailiffs on your doorstep....;)

    No bailiffs in the republic.

Surely the OP has a right of appeal? No right of appeal would render any fine unenforceable. We don't yet have kangaroo courts in this country.

no **** sherlock, of course i parked illegally, but hundreds of people dont pay these cross border fines every yr and i wanted to be one of them

Would you go up North, rob a bank and expect to get away with it?

Ignore it. I doubt they can legally enforce these "fines" south of the border.

I hear the RCMP are missing one of their horses.

Yes he might get extradited, or have a European arrest warrant put out for parking illegally

This type of advice regularly appears from people who usually know nothing about the matter at all.

This is probably a civil matter. But any debt can be pursued, unless you are an out and out knacker with no credit rating. Now for one ticket they might not bother, but there are people out there who are taking the piss and who are going to get a large bill.

I knows plenty about the matter for your information.

The nordies will need to get a civil judgement in the south to enforce in the south. Are they going to bother over £90 odd? I doubt it. They can only get scaled costs in the southern courts which are no where near the real costs of taking a case. The difference between scaled costs and the actual costs cannot be added to the alleged debt. If the person is crafty enough to mount a defence and demand witnesses from NI attend the whole thing becomes untenable due to the limitation on costs.

A northern judgement would not be enforceable in the south on its own.

Also the lack of an appeals process would cause problems with enforcement in the republic.

Why not just PAY the bloody fine????

As this country is a member of the EU, civil debts (of which a parking fine is one), I believe the matter CAN be pursued.

Of course, you can choose to ignore it, but it seems like a lot of ducking and diving for nothing...

The danger is if you are ever up north again and get stopped by the PSNI they will run a check on their system and your name will show up. Then you will be arrested and in a whole lot more bother...

So best to pay the fine.

    LOL!

The PSNI have no role in council parking enforcement.
