Hi lads, please share your wisdom.

As above Iv a 1911 PD, which I love.

Im having a problem which I suspect will be easily fixed! - When I have the pistol in my drop leg holster it ejects the mag without warning as the magazine release button protrudes from the frame quite a bit.

I'm going to file the button down, but don't know if I should remove it 1st or just carry the work out while its all in tact.

Also i don't have a bench grinder, so it's an angle grinder or hand file?

Any advice I'm sure this problem has arisen before!

    Shower me in your wisdom!

Get a fobus or SERPA holster, don't go hacking at the mag catch!

Be aware that a MagGuard won't stop the magazine releasing, it'll just keep it from falling to the ground and getting lost. If the mag release button gets pressed the magazine will still disengage a little bit and need clicking back into place before it'll work properly.

Its an ultimate Pain in the ass, i dont want to have to have stuff hanging off each off my mags and having to click each one back in everytie i whip out my pistol.

I'm not going to hack away at the release pin, but file it down, Im fairly good with metal work - has anyone done this before?

or should i make adaptions to the holster??? hmm?

same happens to me on my g17 glock. im either going to wrap some tape around the mag for a tighter fit or get something simular to that gard. i know it may still release but atleast it wont fall out and disapear forever on me.

@McGilla: If you post a question, try reading the responses. The problem is not the pistol's mag catch - it's the holster. In a fabric holster the mag release can be easily pressed. In a solid holster, like the ones recommended to you, it can not be pressed. Short sweet and simple solution.

Thanks for your reply, I have read all the replys and there have been many solutions suggested so I'm not to know which is most effective!

I'd prefer to try and alter the holster than buy a new one. It's not that I'm not listening, it's just that I'm not flush with cash to buying new gear.

There was an article i read in A.i magazine with a diy solution to this, doesnt look too difficult, looks very neat and tidy if its done right maybe go on to there website they might have it still up. Alot cheaper then purchasing a new holster and alot less hassle the carving up your current holster.
