I am thinking of buying a house which has a partially converted attic. The house is in the South Dublin County Council area. The conversion has a small dormer window installed, to the rear, but I wonder would they have to have had planning permission for this?

Request a certificate of compliance from the sellers for inspection. This will give you details of exactly what planning permission they have being granted.

agreed, this should be requested by your solicitor as a matter of course during teh conveyancing process.

Planning is required for any dormer window - front, rear or side.
