Was thinking of reluctantly taking one of these. Ive heard before that the Institute run courses aren't great + are basically a money spinner for the Institute.

I know there is a seperate Chartered Grind School in operation. Has anyone used them before or can anyone recommend them?

I would definitely not recommend the Institute's one in anycase. They spend most of their time going over the actual exam (because that'll come up again!), and give very generic notes that aren't extremely helpful. And chances are, you'll already have a version of them yourself (they only update one or two things each year).

I've heard mixed opinions of the Chartered Grind School, but the reviews i've heard are more positive than negative.

I did the 2 week audit revision course. It was useless. Really crap and a total waste of money. It's the same lecturer (Sinead Weldon) for the 2 day one now. We had 4 days (I think) spread out over around 2 or 3 months. This was a really bad way of doing it. The worst part was she got someone else to fill in the last lecture after she told us she'd meet with us individually to discuss the mock result. No sign of her after that empty promise. If it was John Ryan or someone I'd recommend it but not Sinead Weldon.

Also, I've heard very good things about the tax lecturer (Sean Arthur) so that one might be worthwhile.

No idea about the other 2.

I went to the chartered grind schools revision courses before the exams in June and I have to say that only for them I would never have passed CAP 2.

The lecturers are far better than anything we had in CAP 2 (although that would not have been too difficult). They really know their subject matter and break it down in a way that is easy to follow and understand.

    I would recommend them.

    *warning to potential students*

Unfortunately, it is not without precedent that colleges will try and advertise themselves in the guise of satisfied "students", so be very careful about testimonials.

Posters have been permanently banned for this in the past and will most likely be banned in the future.

Boards.ie is mostly anonymous - a general rule is that the more posts a user has the more genuine usership and interest they have built up in Boards.ie and their advice can be more readily trusted.

Now, I return you to regular viewing.

If you are referring to my testimonial, you are way off the mark.

Check my previous posts and you will see that they mainly relate to this years SMFA assessment ie I was a CAP 2 student in 2010. I gave an honest view of the revision courses that I attended in response to a question posted.

Funny how your general warning came after my post and not the previous posts in which posters rubbished the institutes revision courses.

Like I said, IF you are referring to my post you are way off the mark.

Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean that they're not out to get you

Anyone else been to the Chartered Grind School for a revision course? Or any other courses aside from the institute for that matter?

Have to repeat Financial Reporting and could definitely do with a different perspective on the course from the lecturer I had in the institute. Is anyone else on here signing up to the Chartered Grind School courses?

In terms of the Institutes revision courses - I repeated CAP 1 Management Accounting last year and Bernard Valley was excellent. I saw he's only taking one day of the weekend this year though.
