From what I remember, they're out second week in September. You can't officially register until then, so if you go into college you won't have access to any of the student resources such as IT etc. Most lecturers don't mind you attending while you wait for the results but I personally never have just in case my annual battle with the repeats ends in defeat!

    Exam results:
    • Autumn exam results will be available from Thursday, 16 September 2010 at 3pm.
    • Results can be checked from that date on www.wit.ie/exams
    • Students waiting on exam results are advised to attend classes from Tuesday, 7 September 2010
    From the site.

    From the site.

That's an absolute joke to be honest.

Why can't they get the repeat exam results out before September 7th?

Because they can't correct and mark hundreds of student's exams and then process the results in the space of a week?

That's an absolute joke to be honest.

Why can't they get the repeat exam results out before September 7th?

Because some lecturers may have 100+ scripts to correct and it wouldn't exactly be fair on the student if there wasn't time to correct them properly.

Fair enough, but what's the point in a student going to college for almost two college weeks, taking notes etc and then finding out that they have failed their repeats and can't go any further when they could have been looking at finding a job etc in that time or a student not going in for almost two college weeks whilst they wait for their results, finding out they have actually passed them and then having to catch up on two weeks worth of notes etc?

It's not the lectures fault, it's the system.

Perhaps the repeats should start a couple of weeks earlier, but it needs to be changed so that results are given back before the start of the college year, IMO.

Well if they spent the summer studying for exams and sitting repeat exams then I don't think two weeks is gonna make a difference when it comes to looking for a job etc. If they didn't pass the repeat exams then they can't really say "Oh come on thats two weeks wasted I could have done so much" and try and find blame somewhere. Should have worked harder and passed the exams.
As for classes during the two weeks, its two weeks of lecturers attended and information learned. Same as if someone decides not to come in for two weeks, finds out they have an exam and then has to catch up on notes. If they fail the exams, they can repeat the year or repeat the subjects they need. Going into second year you're allowed carry two fails, not sure if its the same going into third year.
I completely agree that something needs to be done to at least move the date ahead, but ain't no way in hell the repeat exams are gonna be moved forward. Its the same in every college and IT.

Have to say, iv always thought releasing the exam results when your back in college a few weeks an absolute joke. Its hardly fair on the student either - starting and then told "Ah, no, sorry. You cant be here anymore!".

Something needs to be done to reduce the delay in getting out the results to students.

I suppose it's a way of weeding out the weaker students. I should really take the hint by this stage :p

Its annoying trying to explain to a bunch of students to attend all the lecturers from September 7th and keep your fingers crossed for two weeks that you passed or can carry a subject you failed. This really needs to be a main issue to get sorted out this year.
