How to renew IP Address with UPC? Anyone?

    Hi there,

I'm with UPC and according to the contract it's suppose to have a dynamic IP address. Unfortunately it seems that the IP address only changes every few weeks, instead of every 24 hours.

I tried login into the router and hit the "renew IP lease" button for WAN, nothing changed.
Tried turning router on/off, still same IP address.

    Here is my problem:
I am a PHP programmer and do some freelancing from home. One of my scripts involves indexing about 2500 pages from a specific website on a daily basis. Last wednesday the website suddenly seem to appear offline, everything else works though. Strange thing is, the website still works from my office, friends places and my phone, except from my home (tried different PC's from home, non of them work).
I contacted the owner of the website, and they told me they have not black listed my IP nor did they imply my script as an attack.

A trace to the website shows me the following:
traceroute to 178.18.116.163, 64 hops max, 52 byte packets
     1 * * *
     2 188.141.126.209 (188.141.126.209) 11.644 ms 14.560 ms 17.158 ms
     3 089-101-174030.ntlworld.ie (89.101.174.30) 9.460 ms * 19.476 ms
     4 84.116.132.45 (84.116.132.45) 24.045 ms 31.147 ms 38.569 ms
     5 84.116.132.18 (84.116.132.18) 22.894 ms
        84.116.132.14 (84.116.132.14) 24.008 ms 27.796 ms
     6 uk-lon01a-bt-peer.aorta.net (213.46.174.98) 28.221 ms 30.655 ms 25.006 ms
     7 core1-pos9-0-0.telehouse.ukcore.bt.net (194.74.65.117) 25.393 ms 24.272 ms 29.620 ms
     8 62.172.102.62 (62.172.102.62) 40.038 ms 29.835 ms 46.607 ms
     9 217.32.171.118 (217.32.171.118) 32.219 ms 31.600 ms 44.887 ms
    10 ftip003087626-v1-lb.vhsaccess1.sheffield.fixed-nte.bt.net (194.75.106.10) 42.745 ms 41.274 ms 40.176 ms
    11 * 194.74.191.46 (194.74.191.46) 41.697 ms 46.142 ms
    12 sdc-core-sw.ai270.net (94.126.40.251) 35.818 ms 37.764 ms 35.567 ms
    13 * * *
    14 * * *
    15 * * *
    16 * * *
    17 * * *
    18 * * *
    etc.

So it seems the server at sdc-core-sw.ai270.net (94.126.40.251) must have blocked my IP Address.

I called UPC tech support and they told me the same, the problem lies at the Server sdc-core-sw.ai270.net but they need to investigate further, and now I am waiting for a call back.

For me the solution would simply be getting a new IP address, but as stated above, for some reason nothing seems to work, and the UPC support assured me I am on a dynamic IP.

I can get through to it fine from my UPC address at least.

UPC addresses are sticky and a modem can hold one for a long time. Sometimes you'll need to power off the modem for several hours before it'll renew.

Alternately, switching the modem from normal to bridged and back can force a renewal.

The contract is saying it's Dynamic because a Static IP costs more. it doesn't mean your IP will ever change.

Even if you force DHCP renewal it's likely you get the same IP as your account has a fixed cable MAC anyway.

The IP definitely changes (UPC tech confirmed it), but just on a very irregular basis.
I checked my log and sometimes it's 5 times a week, sometimes once every 3 weeks.

I'll give the bridging thing a go.

You wouldn't know by any chance where the bridging option is on the UPC Cisco routers?

    Credit to Bricks for this:

    http://192.168.100.1/GatewayMode.asp

You may need to amend the IP as appropriate at first, but once it's in bridged mode, it'll switch to 192.168.100.1.

Seems to have worked for me when I reset the modem instead just unplugging it from power.
