Advice about Season 3...

    Hi all,

Started watching Dexter in the last month. I enjoyed Season 1, but was very disappointed in S2... It was really predictable, and when 90% of the things I predicted happened, I felt let down. Not only that, but one of the best things about the show (imo); Dexter's nemesis in the form of James Doakes, was really poorly written out.

Anyway, I've heard S4 is amazing stuff, but my question is what is S3 like? I looked at the poll in another thread... 1 person listed it as their favourite season, compared to 11 for S2 (wtf?)... Am I to believe that 3 is worse than 2? Not sure it's worth sticking with?!

Many think season 3 is the worst. I thought it was ok. Don't give up on the show though, when you have watched season 4 you'll be glad you didn't. Sure it's only 12 episodes;)

I really enjoyed Season 2 to be honest.
Each to his own I guess.

I found Season three to be really, really, bad but don't give up on Dexter! Season 4 is definately worth it. :)

Season 3 was fairly dull for me. Stick with it though just to see John Lithgow tear up the screen in Season 4 in what for me is one the the small screens best performances in many a year.

Just finished watching re-runs of season 3....I did enjoy it but not as much as 1 and 2. Really didnt like Miguel's character AT ALL, thought he was pretty annoying and overacted.....

Season 3 is definitely the worst, turned me off the show for ages. I quite enjoyed Season 2. Seasons 1 and 4 are the best.

I would say that John Lithgow was THE best performance I've ever seen on TV.

With all the bigging up S4 is getting it's bound to disappoint, it's only alright, worth a watch;)

It's terrible. Skip it and watch S4.

Although if the OP does skip season 3, it would be a good idea to read up on it to know what happens, otherwise the start of season 4 is going to appear to have changed shows completely!

Just get a brief synopsis of S3 and skip it, it was a load of shìte that nearly turned me off the show altogether had it not being for John Lithgow saving it in S4.

I'm re-watching season 3 at the moment and I'm really enjoying it now. Much better than I'd remembered funnily enough.

I took the advice of the first few posters in this thread and did indeed watch Season 3. I'm now about half-way through S4 (Lithgow is great).

Funny thing though, I thought Season 3 was much better than Season 2. I had no idea that Jimmy Smits was in S3, so that was a nice surprise, and although a lot of people didn't like him, I did. Plus, no annoying psycho-bitch.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing how S4 pans out.

I didnt think season 3 was all that bad compared to Season one and two.
What amazed me a bit was how his fiancée didnt cop he was up to anything given he is out at night quite a bit. He just seems to be able to come and go as he pleases. The way he was able to dispose of the skinner was a bit too easy. A bit too coincidental but that I think is a flaw through out the series .

My advice is to watch all of it -- only watch one episode per week - it really helps you digest the storyline and get excited to watch the next one.

I've heard a lot of flack thrown at S2; but I thought the police finding Dexter's stash was a massive storyline, and thought the Lila storyline was engaging and loved the last few eps where Dex talks to Doakes. It's my favourite season but everyone else hates it. Oh well :pac:

S3 with Jimmy Smitts is still quite good but it's not as ground-breaking. S4 is fantastic; it's sort of like S3 but done so, so well. I can't talk that season up enough.

Anyway, stop listening to our opinions and spoilers and watch IT ALL! Dexter's fantastic so get as much enjoyment out of it as u can.

Didn't really enjoy S3 all that much but I'm glad I watched it, you might be kinda lost if you skip it.

I've watched S1-4 since xmas and it's the series that I liked the least. I don't really know why but I just didn't like the Prado story line, Miguel is a very annoying character for some reason.

Lithgow is unbelievable in 4 though, great character.

I had no idea that Jimmy Smits was in S3

   That was Jimmy Smits?! I'm stunned!

I haven't seen him since he bailed out of NYPD Blue (I don't have a TV) and finished watching S3 a couple of weeks ago. Watched the lot over about three nights at my mates place.

Found it good. No complaints. Compared to S2? That stupid bitch with the ..... What? Some district of London? ..... nauseating accent? Christ almighty; I wish he'd just done her in by the second set!

Doakes made S2, for me. Welcome relief from that visually attractive but, audibly nauseating black haired bitch.

3 was OK. Fine. I don't remember being disappointed with it. I wait a year between seasons and am happy just to be seeing more.

Maybe now, when I tell my oppo' That was Jimmy Smits / Bobby Simone, he'll let me bring " NYPD Blue " for our weekly 'Living Room Lager Louts' session :D

S4 / John Lithgo? Who's he? Never mind. Sounds like a real treat! I'll be watching that next January then, if I'm still around :)

John Lithgow is probably best known for his role in 3rd Rock from the Sun

I thought this too especially as he is no longer a 'drug addict' as his excuse, so now I try to suspend disbelief by telling myself she is seeing what she wants to see. I guess he gave up his NA meetings.

Im in the middle of season 3 -havent finished it.

The show is enjoyable despite having several problems. Im glad that Lila woman is gone. Couldnt stand her accent. Not much of a fan of Rita's cutesie pie voice either.

My advice would be to stick with it through season 3, enjoy season 4 and stop right there.

    Finished season 4. Glad they
got rid of Rita. She belongs on Desperate Housewives. Feel bad for the kids though. .
