Sent my 3 1/2 year old CH bull to AIBP in Rathkeale last week, graded as a U- Fat score 2= only got 2.10 a kg for him he was 491Kgs so came out with just over 1000 euro, he was classed as a B/Bull.
Totally disgusted really, he'd turned wicked so mart wasn't an option but still I thought 2.10 was a joke, I know I don't send much to the factory bar the odd cull cow so I've no bargaining power.

Was thinking of ringing them to see what the story was, am I right to assume I don't have a hope in hell:confused:

Was at Kilmallock lately enough and saw bulls for the factory making 1200, didn't carry my fella to the mart as I don't believe in selling on trouble like some guys do. I was execting 1200 minimum, last bull I carried to factory was 2 years ago, made 1500 euro...and yes I know alot has changed in 2 years. Every penny counts and how far will 1000 euro go for his replacement?, rang a guy there and he'd a PBNR 9mth old and wanted 1600.

I took an aged limousin (actually we originally bred and sold him) and a couple of cull cows up to moyvalley for a neighbour about 2 weeks ago , don't know the weight and details off hand but he netted just over €1200

    Dozer1,
I know Rathkeale finished bottom of that Factory Beef Price Survey that was done in the Farmers Journal by Justin mCCarthy. I dont know of any farmers in my area (East Clare) that send cattle there. A bit late to be hearing that, I know.
It's also advisable to agree a price before you send in the cattle. I've done it even for single cattle. Just ring the factory and they'll put you on to an agent. It's your money at the end of the day.

my brother sold an 18 month old hereford bull in the mart a week ago for 970 , he weighed 600 kg , sounds like a poor price

Yep I know Rathkeale is crap but other option is Charleville and that's pretty much on the bottòm of the price league aswell.

Rang the factory and they told me no more money to be had, like alot of things I guess its just a case of suck it up.

Thanks irishh_bob but that animal was under the 30 months which I imagine made the difference.

Just glad I didn't feed him with meal as that would have been a bigger waste.

if he has all the cows in-calf then I'll take that, from some of the threads here looks like its a big issue and probably more costly.

Always pays to go through an agent. Two years ago I called Charleville for a price on a cow. Dont remember now what they quoted, but I then called an agent, who go me a much better price for same animal. When I got my cheque sales docket back with weight etc, I figured out I had come out €110 better with the agent than going solo.
