I have an 1997 Toyota Carina E and have lost the key with no hope of finding. A local Toyota garage is quoting €800 approx to have one created. The car is not worth €800. Can anybody assist me ?

Is there an immobiliser in the car?

My brother blew the ecu in my laguna a few years ago when I left my lights on and drained the battery. I jump started the car from his and just as I went to start it he hit his accelerator and caused a power surge which blew something in the ecu.

In the end I went to a scrap yard and took an ecu, key fob with the bliper in it, the immobiliser etc and it cost me just over €100. Bit of work/time involved but it saved me almost €900. (Renault were asking €1,000 at the time!)
