New courses under Labour Market Activation Fund

The Tánaiste Mary Coughlan announced, on 5 August 2010 an additional €12 million funding under the Labour Market Activation Fund to support education and training programmes for at least 5,000 additional unemployed people.

Unlike last year where they were mainly postgrad, this year they are at level 6 to 8.

There is a mad rush to get things in place by the providers as the funding was released so late in the day with the new terms starting in less than 4 weeks. The information is meant to be available on www.qualifax.ie but is still not uploaded.

Co. Meath VEC have courses running at both FETAC Level 3 and FETAC Level 5 under the Labour Market Activation Fund.

The FETAC Level 3 courses are general learning and aim to provide a sound base for anyone looking to enter into further education or to reentering the labour market. It will cover topics such as Effective Communication, [EMAIL="Technology@Work"]Technology@Work[/EMAIL], Maths4Work, Team Working, Creating Effective CVs, Job Seeking Skills. In addition participants will be offered the chance to gain certification in First Aid, Manual Handling, HACCP and also be offered courses in Skype, Social Networking, Introduction to Marketing Online, Podcasting etc. These courses will be offered part-time or full time and range from 12 - 20 weeks in duration.

The FETAC Level 5 courses are being offered in the following areas:
EBusiness- Ashbourne or Navan
Computer Networking and Maintenance - Kells or Trim
Laboratory Techniques (Pre Science) - Laytown

These courses are run on a full time basis from October - May 2011. As above participants will also cover - Health and Safety at Work, First Aid, Manual Handling etc.
