Played this on Saturday. Booked it over the internet, €50 for a pair of green fees on Saturday afternoon.

I had heard reasonably god things about the course over the years so was looking forward to it.

Arrived to find no clubhouse, hotel closed (it has been for years) and the club operating out of two portakabins.

The course is nice (though it's no Ballybunion) , a sort of makey-uppy links with lovely views and some fine holes - particularly the 11th and 12th. However, the empty hotel & clubhouse overlooking the course was a kind of malevolent presence on the day - it reminded me of 'The Shining'. The place is being looked after and was in good condition. I would recommend it for a cheap round in the Galway area.

Anyone know what happened to the hotel/clubhouse? It seems a shame and, hopefully, won't be the fate of other resort courses that are in trouble. Is there a future for the course and club? Spent the night in nearby Oranmore and it was buzzing - great spot.

I heard there is a golf store going in to the ground floor of the hotel.

Played it on Friday and really enjoyed the course. I've heard that the hotel is now in NAMA and houses the largest population of rats in the county. It's an awful shame, the clubhouse looks to be a fine building but is also closed up. There are supposed to be some people that have bought apartments on top of the hotel but as access is through the hotel they can't get to their apartments. It'd be terrible if something is not done with it as it could be a really fine place, the course is really very good.
