    Hi folks,

Horrid vibration coming from the engine so have the 2005 520d parked up at the moment.

I had a local garage have a look and they said its te vibration dampner pulley thats gone, but they dont have the locking tools to sort it.

Anyone got any idea of prices to get this job done, or a specialised independent BMW garage that might not charge BMW labour rates?

Waiting for Joe Duffys to get back to me with a price.

    Thanks

    Why not buy this:

    http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/BMW_5+Series_520_2.0_2005/p/Car-Parts/Engine-Parts/Belts-Chains-and-Tensioners/Tensioners-Idlers-and-Dampers/?347110200&1&4e3bde515dd2b814b05d05d5305da92a76083adb&TVDM

and get a competent independent mechanic to fit it.

I would imagine 2 hours labour to fit it max,
    so total about 300e.

No idea of main dealer price for it to be honest.

Cheers Paul, Saw the part on eurocarparts alright.

Problem is I am told an independent cant do it as it requires some specialised BMW locking tools while its been done.

I am hopeing a good independent BMW specialist might have them.

    What, a spanner??

Don't mind what BMW say, a good independent would be able to do this.

It is perfectly understandable a general mechanic would not have all the tools to remove some of the parts.
Many of those car brands have very specific tools for different areas and general tools would not be of any use.

Take the balljoints removal tool alone, even within the same brand, such as BMW, they are of different size etc...The tool itself is different from a 3 and 5 series etc so you can imagine the number of tools necessarely just to service the whole BMW range.

Give a call to AC Car Sales (www.accarsales.ie), they have most tools and will be able to sort you out. 014531433.

Got car back from Ac today, They let me order the part myself from eurocarparts and stuck to their labour rate quoted for installation, overall a pleasant experience and would have no problems going back to them.

    Thanks reccomending them bmstuff
