Does anyone here use the amazon kindle, or other types of Ereader, for their studies?

My parents offered to buy me an amazon kindle if I wanted one to help with my studies in first year. However, I don't want my parents spending any extra money if they don't have to as they spend a lot on me already.

If you have one do you think it helps with study and lecture notes? Can you get the necessary books you need for class in the form of an ebook?

Thank you to anyone who replies.

What kind of course are you doing? I have 2Gb of Mech Eng ebooks that I need to put on kindle/eReader/ipad.

I don't have one but after 4 years in college ive learnt a bit, you can scan your notes, in pdfny format and then put them on the kindle, so much more handier i would reckon on a kindle(I do this on my laptop but thats not suitable for whipping out in class etc.

Id say do it, if you don't fond yourself using it im sure there would be someone willing to buy it off ya.

Hey, I'm hoping to do Arts. Subjects I'd like to do are English, Maths, History and Philosphy.

Ok well I can't sort you out with any books for those anyway, except maybe maths! ;)

I mean if it's your parents your worried about then go for it, you'll be forking out for them in a nursing home long enough;):p

A laptop or netbook might make more sense so (unless you already have one obviously) and a cheap printer. I was always glad I bought a printer in first year, it made things a lot easier when cutting close to deadlines, printing notes at any hour, etc. Understand where you're coming from not trying to cost your parents more than necessary. Its hard to say with certainty what you will or won't need or will or won't use until you actually have it in your hands. Do you prefer to work off paper notes or are you happy looking at a computer screen for hours?
