OK, so since getting my new iPhone 4, and being on 4.0 the one main thing I miss is proswitcher, essentially it was a great way of switching between applications running in the background. So been looking for a way to have the functionality in iOS4 and is not until today that I have worked it out.

Firstly download backgrounder from cydia the new v553 is the best one, so update it if you need to.

Next, in the global section, set up your settings as follows.

    scaled.php?tn=0&server=441&filename=odvg.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=640

You can chose the badge icon based on your own preferences.

Now go to cydia and install "Remove Recents"

The iPhone will re-spring and now the when you launch an application you chose weather you want to put it into the background or not by holding down the home button. To exit an application, you can do it from fast app switching toolbar or process in sbsettings. Make sure to set the activation method as holding down the home button.

When in the home screen you can double tap the home button and launch the fast app switching toolbar, but now the only applications listed there will be applications that are running.

I use an im client (IM+), in backgrounder I added an exception which allowed it to automatically stay in the background using the native background support, this was a personal preference but one I find quite good.

So, no proswitcher, but an alright alternative and also having control over the background processing gives you better battery life. Let me know what you think.
