You are incorrect sir, the new Laura Croft game is being released then for PC, xBox (well slightly earlier for this but minus the co-op until the 28th) and PS3.

There is currently no release date for the next Tomb Raider game but there is rumoured to be one in production.

They are. This is the upcoming game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lara_Croft_and_the_Guardian_of_Light

This Lara Crof game isn't one of the main Tomb Raider stories though, it's just going to be a downloadable game. So they're calling it a Lara Croft game rather than a Tomb Raider game because its not a continuation of the current Tomb Raider story

.... because its not a continuation of the current Tomb Raider story

I think its fair to say that the TR games aren't following any sort of planned chronology.

Girl with tight clothes and big chest shoots things and pushes blocks, searching for random world-ending artifact in remote locations.

Next game: Girl with tight clothes and big chest shoots things and pushes blocks, searching for random world-ending artifact in remote locations, with added QT events.

Next game: Girl with tight clothes and big chest shoots things, pushes blocks, and uses QT events while searching for random world-ending artifact in remote locations, and can now climb walls and balance on stuff (despite ridiculous centre of gravity), etc. etc.

In this game? Girl with tight clothes and big chest shoots things, pushes blocks, and uses QT events while searching for random world-ending artifact in remote locations, can now climb walls and balance on stuff (despite ridiculous centre of gravity), all from an isometric viewpoint and with a co-op partner!

I'm not saying it's a great story, but it's still a story. Especially the last few games. Even Tomb Raider Anniversary redid some of story to fit in with the story of the past few. For fans of the series, having a new Tomb Raider game which they then find out doesn't follow the story after they've bought it could reflect poorly on the company. Plus as it's only a downloadable game, why not give it a slightly different name to differentiate it from the others
