Hi all, I'm not an enthusiast but wish to restore a newer look on old tyres. Is there something around the house I can use without having to go out and buy stuff!...Boot polish comes to mind!.

    Thanks.

water, fairy liquid and elbow grease. not sure if it will work but at least they'll be clean.
you could also use black spraypaint but it would look ridiculous.

Ive seen foaming tyre cleaner for €2 a can. Works well in cleaning the tyre & leaves a reasonable shine without being too shiny

Peanut butter? Hey, it's better than the black spraypaint suggestion anyway!

be careful what you put on it as a lot of them have solvents that damage the tyre and weaken it coul cause tyre walls to crack etc;)

It's around the house now Esel lol.
I did think of using the peanut butter then I realized I only had the cruchy stuff and knowing my luck if I had used it a 'cruchy' bit would have flown off as I raced down Main st and knocked someones eye out and I would of ended up in court for assault and that would problably have meant 3 'peanutty points ' on my license. lol lol lol:D.

    Smooth or crunchy?

It's really peanut oil that should be used. The OP asked for 'something he'd have around the house', so I said butter.

However, smooth butter would probably be easier to apply / more effective.

    No worries.
On an unrelated matter, how does one get peanut chunks out of the tyre threads?:p
