Paypal- is it counted as cash or retail transaction by CC companies

I almost never withdraw cash on my Visa card. However this week the CC company rang me to say I've got 1650 of cash purchases on my CC over the last 3 years. The only explanation I can think of is that its Paypal that have done this.

But can anyone confirm? Cos if Paypal is deducted as cash rather than as a purchase then we are all getting raped on the higher cash advance fee charged by CC companies (in my case 23.4%)

It's always been treated as a purchase for me, never a cash advance. With MBNA.

westernun ion were the only ones to ever sting me for a cash advance fee for using my credit card

(debit cards are free ,i assumed the credit card was the same and used it accidentally one day which worked out costly )

OP, your credit card company phoned YOU with information that you believe to be incorrect?

    Sounds suspect to me

Check your balance asap just in case!
