Depends on the mileage, if its low the mileage then the 1.8 (Petrol) 125ps unit will be fine.

As always, a diesel will be a bit nicer to drive, but is it worth the premium over the petrol?

There was a bit of a facelift in 06 might be worth looking for an 06.

as said if you are doing small mileage it won't matter.

Against that a diesel should be easier to sell on.

Make sure and look for a 130 6 speed if you look at diesel much nicer drive.

I've had a 03' 1.8 zetec estate before and it was'nt bad on juice (35mpg ish).
Fantastic car all round and way better to drive than a passat.

had a 125 hp zetec 1.8 petrol. it was quite good on petrol actually and a lovely car to drive, far better than the passat it replaced. i think i was getting about 27mpg around town (first/second gear commuting stuff). very comfortable and nice to drive as well, sorry i ever got rid of it.

I'm currently driving a 05 1.8 zetec mondeo and i love it. very comfortable to drive, good on juice (getting an average of 37-38mpg) and decent spec. I only bought it in February and delighted i did.
