Streaming vs Broadcast

Is the idea that streaming will replace Broadcasting just a Web 2.0 fantasy that needs massive fibre infrastructure (and if there are no Broadcasters how do you find the good programs and talk about them)?

Or will Streaming always just complement Buying DVD/CD, Broadcast etc?

More the death of Rentals than Broadcast?

When everyone and I mean everyone has super super fast broadband (100mb+) then I can see streaming taking over but we are a long way off from that.

Even then would there not be a value in scheduled programming?
Examples of programs you might want the same time as other people rather than anytime:
    • News
    • Current Affairs
    • Soap
    • Live Sport

I'm not comparing fibre and Wireless delivery, but On Demand "any time" content vs Scheduled Programming. That's what I mean by streaming vs Broadcast (as fibre can have Broadcast and there are clever ways involving giant encrypted HDDs and Wireless to have access to a huge catalogue of Video on Demand).

I didn't think you meant VOD type stuff.

Certainly that is the way it is going. Dont a lot of new freesat boxes have VOD facilities via BBCiplayer and CH4OD. I dont think it will overtake live broadcsting/it is meant to compliment it. The choice has previously been there via the record it wtach it later scenario. The door has been left open by Freesat for Pay services as well via CI.

It will take a long time for it to take off here. Although it is a possibility with some Combo boxes now. Broadband availability and speed is the still the barrier in many cases.

Internet quality is rubbish. Broadcast quality can be maintained and kept well to a really high standard. Internet quality can't/won't always be.

I don't want the internet overtaking everything including broadcasting though it's bad enough that what I once would've called the "Cablelink" channels are now a shadow of their former self riddled with rubbish and ads to get you to buy a satellite dish off of some bald ogre....

Long story short I prefer scheduled programming but good programming not spam and unforunately there's a lotta spam taken over the telly.

Edit: sorry I think I misread the OP and subsequent posts. I thought this was streaming on the internet rather than the anytime TV stuff.
