Losing Credit on iPhone 3GS

Whenever I buy credit (which is rare, given this problem) I notice that within a couple of days it's more or less gone, despite the fact that I may not have used the phone for calls, texts or internet access. I have very few apps on the phone, but I assume the credit loss is caused by them.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, could he/she suggest a solution?

Process of elimination. Turn off cellular data in the setting menu and definately turn off fetch emails and location services. Do this, check ur credit on a daily basis. Also check if your credit is being reduced while your are in a wi-fi area. Or ask whatever operator you are with, to configure your phone so that you won't be using Internet on the go.

Only 4 and higher has the option to turn off data. If ya have an older firmware ya need to edit the apn to stop the data.

Thanks for the replies. Hopefully that will work!

if your jailbroken, you can download veryhandy tool called SBsettings, lets you toggle all 3g/edge/data toggles on and off easily for all firmware

Thanks for that link. I deleted the apps that I had on the phone (I rarely used them), so I'll see if that makes a difference.

I'm still experiencing this problem. I bought credit for the first time in months yesterday. Given the problem involved, I only spent €5. I made one call; that reduced my credit to €4.40. I have only €3.40 left today, despite the fact that I haven't made any other calls or sent any texts.

have ya got email set up on the phone, what apps are installed, do ya use safari on it, do ya browse the appstore

Cheers for the reply. When I don't have credit, I sometimes check mail or use safari at home through my wireless connection, but since getting that credit yesterday I haven't used any of them. I got rid of my apps. thinking that might eliminate the problem. No luck.

This happens to me all the time. I don't think there's a way to stop it. I just stopped topping up still I switch to bill pay.

What's cellular data anyway mine's turn off and I get a pop up saying enable it.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll try some of those suggestions. I'm with O2 and downloaded the latest OS two days ago.

Yeah just go to settings and turn off cellular data. No need to turn off 3G

Don't want t seem rude but an iPhone without apps and a data download package is just a phone. Bite the bullet and pay for a monthly bill or get a monthly data allowance.

    This will slove your problem

o2 have no pre pay data add on, if it uses any bit of data your going to get fleeced every day. 3, Voda, Meteor all have data add on's. If you want to use your phone as intended move networks.

    3 has a flexifix 15.

unlimited txts to any network (3000 is the quota)
free calls and txt to somone on 3
and 60units which can be calls.
    1unit = 1mb of data.

    i am moving to this.

The 60inits can either be used for calls or Internet surfing. Or you can buy 500mb for 5e.

Thanks for the reply. No - that's one possibility I can rule out.

would you be better off on felxifix 25 with the data add on, 24.99 instead of 15 but your getting 200 anytime minutes and 500mb of data as apposed to 60 minutes for 19.99 if you've got to buy the data add on.

I've not confirmed this but you can topup for 20e and you'll get freetxt to any network plus free calls to any network during the weekend.

With the 20e you can then buy a Data add on for 5e.

So you'll get free txt plus 500mb plus calls with the 10e left plus free calls in the weekend.
