Sounds like it could be a fuse which has blown in your fuse panel, I stand corrected though.

Had a similar issue to this a few years ago when I fitted a new stereo to a Vectra I owned.

    Worth a look anyway

sounds like it is wired to a constant live instead of a switched one.
the constant lives are for the likes of the clock.
ypu need to find a live that is on when ignition is on and goes when ignition is off.
has to be one in the vicinity as it would have been there for old stereo

just checked the wiring map, it looks as if your to connect both the
constant and switched connected, surely thats wrong

That's right. The constant live is connected to the radio memory to keep your station pre-sets, the time etc. saved.

I usually have both power inputs connected to a constant live as I hate the stereo going off with the key.

Just find a switched live for the second connection and leave the constant live on the memory one and you are sorted.

I learned from bad experience with a Punto that having a radio that does not turn off with the key is a really bad idea. Its pretty much inevitable that it will run your battery flat at some point when its not turned off.

Indeed. Thats why I said that I do it. I am not on the train to stupid town. If someone wants their stereo to stay on when the key is turned, they are usually annoyed with it turning off with the key.

Therefore I give them the tiniest sense that they can turn it off when they go home for the night.

Anyone who wants to have an always on stereo and gets a flat battery deserves it...

It is only available on request and upon a disclaimer of non-stupidity :p

    its your car a VW?

they need a special VW adapter between radio and live.

Pull it out, swap the positions of the yellow power wire and the red power wire.

    Job done.

You need to get another power source that goes off with the ignition is off so and use that as your switched source. A cigarette lighter or electric window one shoukd do the job

The radio thing was the same when I changed it in my old car however the electrics cut off after about 3 mins so the radio would also cut out. Got so used to turning it off though
