Trade up or not

Have an Accord S-type, petrol 2litre. The wife normally drives it hence low mileage.

I knew when I was buying this type of car that I might lose a good bit of money, especially since the new tax system came in 2008.

The road tax is niggling me everytime it comes to paying it.

Thinking of tradeing up to maybe an 09 car like an Audi A4.

Anyone any recommendations or am I mad....

    .

The shafting you'll receive trading it in should niggle you a lot more than spending €600 or so to tax it, if it's low tax you're after I can only presume it is a diesel A4 you are considering, you also mention low miles are done in the car. Seems mad to me anyway.

Seems mad to me, road tax savings is €450 per annum ish.

If you are only trading up for the sake of lower motor tax then don't bother as it is a false economy. The cost to trade up price would buy you alot of motor tax for the Accord.

I'm with the others on this one, changing cars just so you could save €450ish pa on road tax makes no sense whatsoever. The cost of road tax on the Accord is already factored into its current value, so you pay it whether you keep or sell.

Especially when 09 cars are so scarce. He would pay big bucks for one straight let alone trade the Honda.

Pay big bucks and at the end of the day would it be worth it to go from an Accord to an A4?

Yeah I hear what your all saying, was thinking also that if I keep it Im going to lose even more on it as the years go by etc....

I always had a Golf before I bought a Honda, the reason why I left the Golf was the family were getting bigger and the Accord had better leg space in back plus when I take a trip down the country you had to power to over take if it was needed, because the 1.4 Golf needed a runway to over take anything.

Always sold the Golf without any problems and it always held its value.

The problem isn't because it is a Honda, the problem is it is a 2.0 litre petrol engined car. If you had a 2.0 litre petrol Golf you would loose similar money in depreciation simply because they cost more to run than a 1.4 litre car.

Although not as much as you would on the A4.
