sorry if this has been asked before

    i have an iphone 3gs, version 4.0 (8A293)

i am going abroad for a month and would like to take my iphone with me and put an australian pay as you go sim card in when i get there. my bill would be a bit much i think if i was to use my own sim card

do i have to jail break the phone or can i ask o2 to unlock it. where are the best instructions on doing this etc and will it be possible to knock off the jail break on my return to go back to normal.

thanks for any replys , i have a few older phones that i could take that work on any network, but using the old nokia 3220 will not be the same :D

o2 will unlock it in a lot of cases. See the sticky here for details.

Ask O2 to unlock, currently taking 48 hours approx. Get 3Pay SIM, use to make and receive calls to/from Ireland. Get Australian SIM for calls within the country.

Similar question here, heading to the states in a few weeks and was wondering do any of the phone companies over there do pay as you go iPhone tarrifs?

Want to be able to use 3g over there, but not using my o2 sim for data roaming.

    Has anyone any info??

Elaborate on this part please!! Is this a three Ireland sim or what because I'm going to nz in October and if 3 have some deal it could be of interest!! Other than that can anyone reccomend a good mobile network in auz and nz that us setup for iPhone usage. Mine is unlocked already so that's not a prob for me

3Pay is a trademark of 3 Ireland. 3 Ireland SIMs work without penalty in 7 territories around the world -3Pay ones in just 5 but including AUS. If you get one of those, you may use it there as though you were at home for voice, SMS and data, without incurring any roaming charges and without paying any extra.

NZ is not a 3 country and therefore it is of no use to you there.

So it would make sense for me to buy a three sim if I'm intending to go to auz after nz though?? Does anyone have any recommendations for networks in auz??

Am given to understand that you have to be careful in Awstraylya-strewth-cobber as 3 has been bought by Telstra (or vice-versa) and that you have to be certain that that is what you are roaming on to avail of the 3 Like Home facility.

3 Like Home is fairly unique, I think. Local SIM is to way to go in Turkey. There is a wiki for dataSIMs abroad. I'll eke out the link.
