I bought an Iphone 3gs on ebay from a seller in ireland.
I recived it a few days ago and it does not work with my sim (Im meteor by the way)

I got it unlocked and it still does not work
I contacted the seller and he said the phone was blacklisited and could be used again if i used it with a network that does not support blacklisting phones eg 3 or to try changing the imei number on the phone???
I have no idea how to go about doing this

He also said he was hoping that a seller from a different country would buy it as it is only barred in Ireland and with the 02 network.
He said he lost his I phone and got a new I phone with his insurance and sold his me his old one.

I said i wanted my money back but he wants me to post back the phone to his address before he will pay me.
Im worried that he will get the phone back and keep my money and ill be left with nothing.

Is there anyway to get this phone working?
The phone is great and was really cheap but does not work
I know im clutching at straws here but thats all Ive got

if you want to return it for a full refund yu need to open a paypal dispute with item not as described. You then send the phone back TRACKED/RECORDED DELIVERY and he will have to refund you. You must send it tracked so that he can't claim not received. Paypal will refund you and claim the money back from him. Personally i would return as soon as possible as you only have 45 days to open a dispute. If it goes on longer than that, you're stuck with it.

you could be arrested for handling stolen goods ,what youve just described constitutes insurance fraud

if he pretended he lost the phone to get a new one he has no right to sell the old one on ebay

get rid of it ASAP and buy a proper one

hacking the imei number is also a crime ,not worth the hassle imo

how much did u give him for the phone ?

Once you've registered the dispute paypal stick a lien on his account, so unless he has already emptied it, and never uses it to receive payments again you should be ok.

doesn't matter - paypal will refund you and chase him for the funds if he doesn't have them in his account.

Was it advertised as blacklisted and was the price too good to be true? You get nothing for nothing these days and that should have set off alarmbells initially.

As said get your money back via the dispute and try to find out why the phone was blacklisted and then report this guy afterwards to the cops or the insurance company.

If you have altered the phone, by unlocking it, you may not get a refund - as the item cannot be sent back in the same condition as it was recieved,

    Just a heads up.

He can just restore it in iTunes

    Good luck OP

how much did you pay for it out of interest? Do people think op would be better of waiting for paypal to resolve the
    dispute before sending it back?

Paypal won't resolve or refund anything before it's sent back, by registered post, at the buyer's expense.

It might be worth contacting Zurich insurance (the company who provide insurance for o2 iPhones) with the IMEI so he get's what is coming to him for screwing you over.

Explain to them that you bought it on eBay and the seller said that he fraudulently sold an iPhone claimed on insurance.

If he is willing to refund it if you send it back, get the address, show up at the address and get your money back in person.. No excuses then..

a paypal chargeback should suffice ,i wouldnt refund a person with cash in case he denied being refunded and put the paypal chargeback in anyway

then he could get 2 refunds and theres nothing you could do about it

wouldn't recommend the showing up in person either, this fella is already involved in crime of some sort so wouldn't know what else he could do, it's easy to be an internet hard man
