    hi guys,

i am in the process of organising a stag party to Carlow - i have been given the names of 3 hotels - dolmen, talbot, oaks
how far are these hotels from the centre of carlow town - i stayed in the oaks a few years ago and think its a 10 minute walk to town centre - i have no idea how far the other 2 are from the centre and the hotels when asked were not very exact on their answer - one of them said a 5 minute drive or a 10 minute walk!!!

the dolmen is quite a distance from the middle of town, at least a ten minute drive and the talbot is much closer being in graigecullen on the portlaoise road.

    talbot hotel

    dolmen hotel carlow

the dolmen is out a good bit more than where it is marked on the map!

the seven oaks is in the town just a few minutes from the main night spots.

Seven Oaks by far the best option if you are going for a hotel close to town. Talbot is a nice hotel but a bit out if you are walking full of beer or just heading out. I hate getting taxis so I always go for a hotel close to bars and the like.

The seven oaks is a good option but it might be worth trying dinn ri hotel because sometimes they have offers.(if you ring them you might better deal than whats on the web site) http://www.dinnri.com/dinn%20ri%20hotel.htm And if i'm not mistaken their rate includes your breakfast and entry into the night club too. Its right in the centre of town too so no long back at the end of the night :)

Def ring dinn ri. Dream location. Right bang in the middle of tullow st i.e drinkin street!

Oak's is less then a 10 min walk into the town I would think. It's at a good location for getting in and out of the town without a taxi, wouldn't be any trouble walking in and back.

Talbot is a little bit out, but still possible to walk in and out of town

Dolmen is well out of town, You would defo need a taxi!

So if you're just going on distance, best option is probably Seven Oak's, I Believe you also get to use the gym (greenbank) although I don't think that will be on anyones mind for a stag party :P

But as the lads said check out Dinn Rí, It's right beside The Foundry (The big night club) and a min walk to ever other place in town :P

Talbot hotel do great deals for hen and stag nights and a bit more laid back than the seven oaks.

realisticly, The talbot is not a walkable distance for a group of lads with a few drinks in them.

Seven Oaks or Dinn Ri would probably be the best options.
I was out on a walk yesterday evening and I timed the walk from The Seven Oaks to the Med Bar. It took me 5 minutes at a brisk walk, so I'd take it as a 10 minute stroll.

NOTE: I didn't walk up Dublin St and down Tullow St, I walked across College St.

There's the courthouse hotel also. Closer to town than the 7 oaks.

Either mcCourts hotel or Seven Oaks or dinn ri...though Dinn Ri only has ten bedrooms I think so could be booked up...Dinn Ri is right in centre of town, own night club and bars..

    Dolmen not within walking distance...

Talbot is but a good 10 to 15 mins walk and not helpful if you drunk...might get lost..though taxi drive only about 5 mins or so

Hi lads, thinking of going to Carlow myself for a stag. there would be between 20-30 of us going around late November or early December. Would you reccommend the town for a stag around that time and with that many people?

More importantly are there any self catering houses or apartments we could book out?
Or is there a hostel in or around the town?
Information on hotels above is good but just looking to check out other options too.
    Thanks

Killerig Hotel is about 15 minutes outside Carlow and I think they do self catering houses. Also Dolmen Hotel might have houses. not sure there is many self catering in the town itself .

we stayed in the Seven Oaks hotel - 20 of us in total - €49 B & B per person - we booked it as a GAA weekend - we did not mention a stay when booking. cant complain about the place, food was lovely for those of us who ate before we hit the town and there was no hassle with being served in the residents bar!!

    Hi Lads,

Sorry for digging up an old thread. I'm organising a stag night for March and really looking at Carlow as a good option.

One issue is what to do during the day. We have all done go-karting and paintballing to death so looking to do something different. All the lads will be in their 30's so we can't handle a full day of drinking, so we need to have something to entertain us!

Any suggestions about what to do during the day in or around Carlow (or in general!) would be much appreciated!

No drinking you say...............hmm thats me out i'm sure somebody will help though :D

Kinda the same thing but quad biking available or that airsoft( never done it so dont know). The go kart place has just opened but is meant to be good with really fast karts.

Not very stags but there is a horse riding place that will take ya out for an hour.

    other then that i'm stumped!!!!

    Canoeing on the Barrow perhaps

Or possibly give the brewery in Bagnelstown a call. Maybe they could organise a tour. I've done this before.
