Hope Im posting in the right section here.

Was away on holidays and freezer was accidentally turned off the night we left.

14 days later discovered the problem - emptied the freezer of all the rotting disgusting thawed food but my problem is trying to get rid of the appalling smell that is now lingering in the freezer.

Its so bad that when I opened the door just there it left an awful smell in the kitchen. Had to open all the windows etc.

Any advice would be very much appreciated. :o

    Thanks

    Kilsmum

I had a similar problem months back and a mate introduced me to "Fridge Gem", i bought it in aldi. You just spray directly into the fidge or freezer, you can even spray straight onto ice (if its not defrosted), it will penerate the ice. It does not need to be wiped off afterwards.

It will leave the freezer with that new smell.

Thanks so much John Doe - I will try anything!!:(:(:(

The ice was well defrosted - I'll pop down to Aldi and pick up and can.

I'll let you know how I get on.

    Thanks again.....

Fairy liquid and good old hot water did it for me.

Try either pouring baking soda onto the trays in the freezer or else put a few egg cups full of baking soda in the freezer. I think that should soak up a good bit of the pong at least!

to thoroughly clean first use, vinegar the white alcohol type vinegar, the type you had in the press for donkeys, and your mother or father doused it all over your chips when you were a kid, and ya loved it cos it was the only vinegar you could get in ireland, but it didnt matter cos its still the best.

Anyways mix it 1/3 vinegar 2/3 water, and start using elbow grease.

that will clear away all smells, if you want then stick in some baking soda, in an open container as said above it will absorb the smells.

Check the little drain at back of the fridge, also pull out the fridge and clean out the evaporator that sits on top of the motor, this is where water from the fridge collects.

Thanks for all the suggestions - couldn't get the Aldi spray but did try bleach mixed with water - when the freezer door is open is fine but if you close the door the smell comes back.

Im going to try the vinegar suggestion and I have had the baking powder in a bowl in the freezer for over a week now.

I reckon it will take a while but Im wiling to wait it out - bought the freezer new in April and its integrated so worse again:(:(:(

    clean the rubber seals also

if you use strong detergents they will leave a smell that u will never get out, u can also use baking soda in water to wash it

    Thanks again,
