Well I think if the battery was uncharged it would take around 3 or 4 hours to charge I believe.

Get yourself one of these. Plug in the battery - press the yellow discharge button and leave it on. It'll empty the battery, recharge it and then trickle-feed it with power until you disconnect it. best way to keep your battery :)

    Ugh. Here we go again.

First off, check the battery chemistry. It should be written on each cell of the pack with "NiCd" or "NiMH".

For NiCd batteries; these need to be slow charged, a process that takes several hours. Cheap chargers that ship with clone guns are trickle chargers. Look at the output current on the charger, it'll probably be around 250mAh. Divide this number into your battery rating, the result will be your charge time in hours from a flat battery.
NiCd batteries cannot be overcharged on trickle supplies. Leaving them overnight is fine.
Discharging is not required, but I'd advise a full discharge and recharge once every twenty charges, to prolong the lifespan of the pack.

For NiMH batteries; these must be fast charged. Most clones ship with a NiMH battery and a trickle charger. I'd strenuously advise against using these together if you want your battery to last.
The same divisor rule applies, but you must be using a charge current at least equal to the battery's capacity, double it is the norm.
NiMH packs do not need to be discharged fully. Doing so is futile, and damaging in the long term.
Smart chargers are often recommended, but only for use on NiMH packs. Preferably, get one with both an automatic cut-out and a thermal cut-out, though the latter is only on more expensive models. Avoid TLP brand too, more trouble than they're worth (personally speaking).

Whatever you do, check the battery chemistry first, it's fairly vital to how you proceed with charging.

You have a 1100mAh battery and your charger has an output of 250mAh. So you divide the batteries capacity by the chargers output.

    1100mAh/250mAh= 4.4 hours charge time.

Edit: Oh and remember thats .4 of an hour, not 40 minutes.

    i have a kalashnikov charger with 2 charge rates,1000mah & 2000mah.which should i be useing for 8.4/9.6 1500mah batterys.
i always thought to use the 1000mah setting but you say double is the norm

Depends on the battery chemistry. If it's NiCd, use the lowest setting. If it's NiMH, use the higher setting.

there NiMH.as far as i can remember the instructions said use the 1000mah setting.
would there be any benifits/consequences of changing to the higher setting

It'll charge faster, that's about it. Personally, I charge NiMH packs of about 1100mAh at about 2A.
