iphone 4 won't restore

Just bought an iPhone 4 and when connected to iTunes it asked me to update to 4.0.2. Now whenever I try to download the update it gets to the end and says there was a network connection problem. So I downloaded the IPSW separately from iClarified and tried to manually install the update but i keep getting various errors. It's stuck in recovery mode now :(
Any ideas what I can do?

After iTunes installs the firmware, it checks back with apple to ensure you've installed a legitimate firmware. This requires Internet connectivity, and if it fails, you'll get a 4-digit error code starting with 10.
If iTunes had trouble downloading the ipsw, chances are it also can't connect to the activation server.

Downloads getting to the end and then a network connection error I have seen caused by antivirus software. Try disabling that and doing the update in iTunes again.

Lots of causes of errors listed here.
