iPhone 4 searching for network

Not sure if this is a Vodafone problem or my phone is broken. Late last night it starting coming up searching for a signal and couldnt find one. Same thing this morning. Tried restarting it and toggling airplane mode on and off and it hasnt helped. Anyone any ideas??

I'm with 3 and it happens to me about 5 times this morning. The phone also got very hot. No idea what to make of it. I turned it off and back on and it sorted the searching out but I've noticed the back left hand side warming up a little. I've stopped using a silicone case recently so maybe the warming up is normal??
