guitar player in galway wants to start band

Hi, i'm looking for some fun people, to jam, and form a band with down here in Galway city, I'm into progressive rock, metal, classic rock, instrumental rock, and other styles. I'm into the idea of taking the form of guitar/vocals/keyboard/bass/drums set-up, but i'm open to ideas..

my main influences (in no particular order) are Iron maiden, Rush, Metallica, Opeth, Dream Theater, Alice in chains, Pink floyd, frank zappa, paul gilbert, neil young .and many others.

I'd like to play that kind of stuff, but whatever comes out, comes out.
my intention is to write original stuff although setting up a covers set for the craic and a bit of cash would be nice. Im 22, and people around the same age would be awesome, but it ain't essential.

ya how are you slickstring. i'd be of the same mind. into everything you mentioned there part from zappa and gilbert who i don't have much knowledge of.

definitely sick of covers, really wanna really focus on originals and jam them and have feedback and improve what you have. got about five originals written but just on acoustic, really wanna amp up and get them worked on.

if we were to do any covers and it would have to be only a few you'd have to make them your own song. i play guitar but wouldn't be great at leads more into fingerstyle techniques and that, a lead over what i've written would really add to the music.

right anyway i'm rambling, hope to hear from you

Forgot to mention in my PM that I'm 25 and also would prefer to write original stuff if that's what happens. I only put a thread up 2 days ago about there being no metal fans in Galway looking to start up bands. Seems to be all Dublin and Cork. Anyway, PM me if you want. Take it easy.

thanks for the pm dude! i was talkin to another guitar player, and i needed to ges hold of a bassist! i'm up for a jam so, i'm gonna be busy untill after the 23rd, (repeat exams and crap,) but as soon as thats done, i'll get back to you! yeah, no metal in galway! what is up with that!? its all punk and covers!! i'm with you there on no indie crap!
is there any tunes you want to jam out on first meeting? I have some stuff written, but hardly anything recorded that i'm happy enough with to post with (i'm trying to solve that tho!)

musically i'd like to find the middle ground between that iron maiden 80's sound with the dream theaterish progressive metal sound and the opethy melodic/acoustic stuff, but i like to dumb it down now and then and play aic and metallica style stuff but as i say what comes out, comes out. anyways, im talkin ****e!

so lemme know a few tunes you wanna jam on, we'll meet up, jam and all goes well, start writing!

Bass player here that might be interested! what kind of age group we looking at here? (I'm 21). I have played mostly in metal bands, but love groovin to mellower rock at home as well.

Hey sorry if this is a bit out of order posting this here. But i'm in a band with two guys from NUIG aswell. We jam in westport ballinrobe, don't really have a particular sound yet. We've done covers of Alice in Chains, that's about the nearest we get to this thread.

But yeah basically we need one more musician to fatten up the sound, cause it can be a dodgy sometimes. A musician of any sorts and preferably all sorts be it bass, guitar or xylophone.

You still lookin for members? I've got similar influences and i play keys guitar and sax mainly plus a bit of bass and drums, trying to write and play an album on my own but really looking to jam with likeminded musicians. Maybe I couls bring something to the mix.
