Right lads, looking to buy my first car in the next few weeks.
I'm on a provisional so it'll have to be a 1.2l max really.

Budget is about €4k, and about €1.5k for insurance on top of that.
(going as named driver on parents.)

I've been looking at the Grande Punto and Corsa so far... but still undecided.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks!

Your inexperienced, so buy a banger for 6months to get you started.

Get a 1.1 Mk3 Fiesta for €400 max and save the rest untill you have gained enough experience.

I'd highly recommend a mid 90's Toyota Starlet, very reliable car if
you do get one make sure it has the 5speed gearbox.

That or a Mitsubishi Colt also a great learner car.

Lower the budget for the car, spend the rest of the money getting your own policy; itll benifit you greatly in the long run.

A lot of people recommend 1.25L Fiesta. My gf recently picked up a Polo which is also quite a nice little car to drive.

You dont necessarily have to stick to 1.2 and under either; its not a hard and fast rule that engine size relates to insurance premiums.

Some good advice mentioned already. As said above. Get a cheaper car, I recommend the Toyota Starlet (my first 2 cars) and spend the money on getting your own policy. Start building your own no claims bonus as soon as possible.

    Good luck.

i'd recommend a mid-late nineties toyota, if it has nct you'd expect cheap trouble free motoring. Best of luck!

If you're nto stuck on getting a car, you culd look at getting a littel car-van, like a fiesta 1.8d van for example, tough and economical, and depending on a few factors you can get a decent quote for a young driver on one. My young cousin just got a qoute 200 euro cheaper than a 1.1 fiesta on a 1.8d peugeot 205 van, and 140-sh cheaper on the 1.8d fiesta van
