Dont know how this compares to the above, but I since I have a G50 thats still going strong, I have to recommend Asus

Yeah, can't really go wrong with ASUS. Solid products. There are similiarly or lower priced ones on ebay with the same specs as the one you listed but they don't have the 17 inch screen that he's looking for.

I know, but I always thought a 17 inch screen was a bit impractical for a laptop. One of the drawbacks of Asus is it's weight and the transformer is only slightly smaller than an Xbox brick. So 15.6 is easier on your arms.

It has a HDMI port so you could plug it into a widescreen and play with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Ive done this a few times with pretty good results.

Ive always thought online is your best bet for laptops. Ebay is recommended, just check the sellers reputation. Its much cheaper and shipping from America usually doesnt cost that much (unless you get stung by customs, didn't happen me)

Dont know about the North, they basically have the same shops as the south, selling overpriced tat.

Asus G73 would be a solid choce and fit your requirements.

I seen this in a sony centre http://www.sony.ie/product/vn-f-series/vpcf12m0e-b for around €1350.
Im considering getting it, looking for pretty much the same as yourself. But sony always fill their laptops with usless crap. Ive had my present vaio for 3 or 4 years only problems ive had have been with windows vista so happy to go back to Sony also the fact a similar gaming branded laptop would easily cost a few hundered extra!

Well the third one is relatively weak graphics wise so it wouldn't be as good for gaming.

The second one has a decent mid level graphics card but is 18" so it isn't really a laptop. If you plan on carrying it anywhere this will be a pain.

I'd go with the first one.

Now that I think of it PC World did have a HP envy 15 with core i7 and a 4830 graphics card which should be better than the first one there (not sure how the new gen of ati cards compare to the older ones but I imagine the 4830 is at least a little bit better) and it was about the same price if not cheaper (I think they were €1100). I don't know if they still have them but someone was selling one on adverts at a good price as well so that would be another option.

MSI GX740 goes for around £900-1000. (ive seen it for £890 on scan and £999 on Micro Anvika).

It's 17" and has the ATI Mobility 5870 which is very fast as far as mobile graphics cards go, quite similar to a desktop 5770.

MSI Microstar GX740, have you bought off of this company, are they reputable, has anyone ever bought off of amazon.com ?

MSI have been making laptops, motherboard, GPUs etc for donkeys years. They're a well known brand in the computer industry.

Ive no experience of that particular laptop but the specs look good and im sure you'll find specific reviews online if you search.

Amazon.com is an American site, they don't ship laptops to Ireland.

    For gaming the 5650 >> 330M

At those prices though id still be looking towards higher end cards such as the HD 5850. For a serious gamer. 5650 is a last generation card, and just isnt future-proof enough for such a price.

HD 5850. cant find a laoptop with it that i can get here and at the price i am spending 1300-1400

are you saying that the 5650 is a better graphics card than the 330m.

Most definately. In real game performance the 5650 is much better than the 330. Plus the 5650 has some impressive overclocking scores.
