    Hi
I have Frenulum Breve and am wondering can a gp perform a frenuloplasty or would i have to go to a Urologist? Ive gotten two conflicting answers from a gp and a sexual health clinic. Am on a medical card and am thinking perhaps the doctor couldnt be bothered with it because of this. If anyone has any answers Id appreciate it.
    Thanks!

It depends, different drs are trained in different proceedures depending on where thier speciality lies. Not ever dr can do a smear test but there are those who do.

So if you dr can't do it and they want to refer you on to someone else then take the referral.

    Ok.
Supposing a particular GP can do this. How many do you think he will be doing ? Probably not many. The urologist will be getting referrals from many GP's - he gets more practice. Practice makes perfect.

Ask around find out if the urologist is good.

Its an extremely simple procedure. Its not a tumour removal like. If a doctor can do it, I most likely wouldnt have to wait the best part of a year for something that will take all of 15 minutes to perform, and a few days for healing. Thanks anyway.

It might be simple but its still surgery.

OP, I'm hazarding a guess here but I'd say that most GPs would refer you to a urologist rather than perform the procedure themselves. The urologist would have more experience compared to the GP and hence, a lesser risk of something going wrong. The GPs would probably be unwilling to perform the procedure due to potential risks.

Had this done last year..simple procedure..done under general in Hosp so dont think GP will be any good to you..
    Just in for morning...

See your GP, get appointment with urologist and off you go...its great afterwards BTW :)

700-800e to get it done privately, you'd be waiting about a year on a medical card.

This can be done under local anaesthetic but the urologist told me it was better under general as it caused less swelling and was a better job. So perhaps for quality it is better to get the referral to the urologist. I got this under VHI on Wednesday and seems to be healing fine, gonna give it a few weeks before proper verdict.

But definitely get it done, this is one aspect of my health I don't mind spending money on.

Post on the health sciences forum, there's GP's lurking around there that would be able give you better information.

So I had my frenuloplasty, it went well. Took over a month before could have sex and still a little sensitive [but not painful] nearly two months on during sex. I came across this forum about stretching after I had the procedure.

I tried the stretching but never saw any pictures or diagrams so on seeing this I realised I wasn't doing it correctly, so for anyone out there wondering whether you can stretch the frenulum or foreskin please [google: phimosis, network54] it has a diagram and 2 pictures of stretching the penis.

I wish I had come across this years ago but alas we live in a world where men don't really mention this sh)t to each other and thus trudge on until it becomes a big issue.

    Best of luck guys
