Hey, I booked the Hotel Oceano Atlantico in Portugal today... I kind of booked it in a fit cause I had found cheap flights..

When I got from work at had a look on Google Earth, it looks a bit far from the beach :o has anyone here stayed here or in the vicinity?? Is it much of a walk to the local amenities?

Also, any recommendations on eating out, day trips etc?

    Thanks :)

    Check Tripadvisor, generally spot on.

    Hey Xzanti,
I just came across your post from past year.
How did you find the Oceano Atlantico and the area? I'm heading there on the 18th of August!

I have stayed in this hotel, it was quite far from the main beach and the town, but walking distance (maybe 10 mins) to a quieter beach. Also there are hourly (well in 2008!) shuttles to the centre

    Hi there :)

I'll save myself some typing and quote you the review I left on a hotel review website when I came home.
I would agree that the building both facade and interior are pretty impressive, and the room was very well equipt and modern.. We had a large flat screen TV with about 4 English channels including one movie channel which showed a variety of family movies (with portuguese subtitles) which kept us entertained on the evenings we spent sitting in.. It also had a washing machine and decent microwave.. but no kettle ?? strange..

It had good air conditioning which was very welcome in the heat, and also electric shutters in both the living room and bedroom which would block out all natural light if you wished to sleep during the day.. this was also very welcome..

The beds were very, very uncomfortable and as I am 6 months pregnant I found them impossible to sleep on, I ended up having to remove cushions from the living room furniture to pad the bed before I could lie on it..

We chose self catering and boy were we glad we did, we ventured into the restaurant on 2 occasions and the "buffet" was miserable looking, and looked like it had been sitting out all day, it wasn't even in a proper serving unit, just laid out on a counter top :/ also there is a terrible stink of cigarettes which seems to permiate throughout the restaurant and bar area.. This put me off going anywhere near it.. Your best bet is to venture out to the various places in the town or go to the large supermarket which is about 10 minutes walk from the hotel.. This is a fantastic supermarket, has a huge variety of fresh fruits, meats, breads etc, it's as good as you would get at home..

The front desk staff, with the exception of one gentleman who was very helpful, were for the most part very unhelpful.. My partner asked them to send a very important fax to his workplace back home and when we got the fax receipt, it had indeed been sent, but they sent it upside down, so all that sent were blank sheets.. We enquired about it the following day and different girl was on duty and she didn't want to know, her attitude was "well it was my colleague, nothing to do with me" not even an apology.. she really couldn't have cared less, and she looked quite upset that we had dragged her away from Facebook or whatever she was playing at in her little cubby hole..

Overall, we have fond memories of our Holiday, but we wouldn't go back to this particular hotel, just because of the beds and the restaurant etc.. Also it is quite a hike from the beach and it's up on a hill so if you have kids or are elderly it really isn't suitable..

On the upside, the resort itself is quite beautiful and family orrientated..
