Hi guys Im looking for a partner for the 2for1 offer on the Fashion buying and merchandising part-time course in Portobello Institute Dublin, starting 19/10/10. If you're also interested in this course maybe we could reach an agreement regarding this offer. Thanx:)

How much is the course and how long is it for?

Hi Salander its 2426 euro aahh! It lasts 6 months - one evening p/week. If you register before August 31st 2 people get in for 1, so if anyone was interested I was thinking to split fees down the middle.

That seems very expensive for a FETAC course - check out Crumlin College as they offer the exactly same course and have done for years - in fact I think they developed it.

hi i just completed the full time fashion design course at portobello and we had some classes with the merchandisers. my course was such a waste of money and we had alot of problems too. i do not think that the merchandisers were happy either. they are just interested in money.i strongly recommend you try somewhere that offers the same fetac level for much much cheaper. i regret not going to crumlin college now.

Hey there, I'm also thinking about doing this course, part time fashion buying and merchandising, one weekend a month, over 6 months, but it does seem awful expensive. I'm wondering is it really worth the money?

I find it kind of strange that the full time course is 5000 euro and the part time course, which works out at only 12 days really, is half that price. Is this not a bit outrageous?

Also, I did think originally that the course was 7 months long, and when I asked the girl on the phone, she said "yes, it's 7 months, it runs from November to April"...but this is only 6 months, so i already feel kind of lied to a little bit. I don't really trust them, but still would love to do the course.

I'm considering Crumlin, but would prefer to do a part time course and also I would like to get started this year rather than wait til next September.

I would really like to do this course and would see it as an investment if i did go ahead with it, but would love to know how people got on afterwards... So does anybody have any advice about this course, either part time or full time, or does anyone have any feedback on Crumlin College?

    Thanks a mil!

Hey there I have been looking at that course for a while and think it seems crazy expensive and after spending all that money, is it even a guarantee of a place in the industry!? Most places are looking for people with experience but how can you get experience! Argghhhh.

As I am in work full-time something one night a week or at weekend would be perfect for me too but I just don't know if I can part with the money - from the website it app already started in October?

Did you ever get any feedback on the Crumlin course?

Found the following information -looks like ship has sailed for current course which started in September. http://www.qualifax.ie/qf/QFPublic/?Mainsec=courses&Subsec=course_details&ID=2443&CSH_ID=

Open day in Jan 2011 which isn't that far away. Looks to be an interview process. I would be a mature student, fees don't seem to be an issue? Merely a registration type thing? Just need to decide if I want to go for this full-time! Back to college at 27!

I'd say the best way to get ito the industry is just through the business, work your way up. There are a few options for full time courses, if you have a business degree there is an add on year in DIT, I did look into the course in Crumlin too, but i'm looking to do something part time preferably. I'm 28. so I think for me it's better to just get working full time in the retail industry and do something on the side that might help me along with getting into buying. I'm just not really up for going back to college full time, esp for a course like this that you can prob learn more from just working.

I put up this post because I was wondering if i could get advice from someone who's already done the course at Portebello Institute. I nevereven heard of this college before i started looking into courses and was wondering if the course is actually worth the money, but it seems nobody can answer our questions for us! :(

Maybe i'll just call up to te college some day and see if i meet anyone who can give me some advice. Best of Luck!

Hey there, i decided to go ahead and apply for Crumlin so i'll be starting that in September hopefully! I wasn't sure I wanted to go back full time, but the course sounds great and it's only a year, (or 2 max if you want to continue on with Fashion Management) and it really is what I want o do, so i figure it's worth doing the course for the year.

I couldn't find any real info on the course in Portebello Institute, it sounds to me like it's too much money for a dragged out kind of course, I personally don't think it's worth it, but look into it further if it's really what you'd like to do!

    Best of Luck with everything!
