Can anyone offer an opinion on which would have better dive sites in Egypt Sharm el sheikh or Dahab and would there be much difference?

I'm heading that way for 7 or 8 days in September, any advice greatly apprecited and also if anyone could recomend a dive centre that would be cool too,

btw I'm certified to AOW and have done about 25 dives before..

    Thanks.

I've been to Sharm twice, for a week each time.
Both times, we went up to Dahab for a day to dive two particularly famous sites, 'The Canyon' and 'The Bells and Blue Hole'.
I can't comment on what any of the other sites are like, but those two are great.

At 25 dives, though, almost any site in the area is going to blow you away, so you don't need to aim to hit them all on this trip. They'll still be there next year!

    nice 1,000th post :)

So would you recommend one over the other? Do you remember who you dived with?

very professional outfit who know the peninsula well.

Suggest you do Sharm first and leave Dahab until another day. There are many good sites there.

Do a couple of dives here before you go, they will ask you when you last dived.

    Enjoy

Hey, I didn't even notice that milestone!

Dived with Camel Hotel and Dive Centre. Going back to them this year again.

I reckon Sharm has more dive sites and if others are travelling with you theres a lot more to do in sharm than in Dahab. I much prefer Dahab as its more authentic Bedouin experiance but a day trip there would be fine. You should defo do the blue hole and the bells when they are so close. dahab is about and hour- hour and half and the blue hole is probably another hour I cant remember exactly. Just be careful in the blue hole a lot of people got in trouble there by not minding their depth but it is an experience.
Saw an oceanic white tip when I was in Sharm last may but missed a whale shark. have a blast.

Actually I am travelling over on my own which is why I was leaning more towards Dahab. If the diving is equally good in both place I may head there.

Adrian its a while since I was in Dahab but here are defo more sites in sharm but a more authentic experiaence in dahab of culture etc. The main prom is full of hassle "eat in my restaurant ****e" but after a few days they get to know your face and just say hello or at least they did. Try and get a meal cooked out in the desert with a group its an experience to do when your there. Lots of rock climbing too but not too sure about it would need to check it out. eel garden is right off the prom and the restauruants/cafe usually let you leave your stuff on the seats if your eating there while you go diving but don't leave valubles obviously. Dahab is a bit "rougher" than Sharm in terms of infastructure but I found the people friendly enough when you make an effort. There was only one pub in Dahab and wine only served in the hotels. You wont really see anyone falling round the place steamers like here late at night.
