The stats show that the Acog increases your range but doesn't show that the red dot or holographic sight does anything for you.
Do they do anything or are they a waste of space?

None of them change the range of your bullet. The ACOG will just give you better zoom to see more clearly at distance.

There is one exception where a Holo sight will improve damage over longer range than you'd get with any other scope, but this is limited to the FAL.

Personal preference. ACOGs affect gun-up time and sway - so depending on how you play you can find yourself greatly disadvantaged in CQC. I wouldn't touch any of the sights unless I was very unhappy with the iron sights on the gun (silencers will do you more favours), but others would swear by using holos as they have a pretty smooth auto-aim action on consoles - your gun is a little more likely to ADS on target straightaway. Dunno whether that's a feature of the engine, or a placebo effect.

Neither RDS and holos are a waste of space though - they're there to give you a consistent gun-aiming experience, so the UMP can feel like the M4, can feel like the RPD, etc, if you're burst firing the red dot is easier to track on target than the iron sights, and for ghost sighted guns like the M4, M16, M1014, M240 you'll have less gun in your peripheral vision.

    Ok.

I just though it was strange that when selecting the Acog, it shows you the range bar on your guns stats increase. But no such display with the RDS or Holo so I had to wonder if the later two did anything at all.

    Thanks

Don't pay much attention to those stats, FMJ increases penetration power but in the in-game stats it says it increases damage.

Im pretty sure it also increased the M16's damage at range too. Personally I use either Iron Sights or Red Dot, simply because Im a silencer type of guy. (Unless its playing a gamebattles/decerto game, then Its FAMAS RD or UMP RD/Silencer) Its all personal choice to be honest.

This site would suggest not... :)

nope, but it does effect the spread of the bullets, some guy (blametruth?) did a video, basically private match on his own, and changed between m16 rds and holo, and the spread of the bullets over any distance is closer, therefore more likely to hit with all if your a good shot. then i thought that this was the case with all guns, so preferred the holo on any gun, then then on the acr, the red dot sight is better! :pac:

basically, there's an exact science to it. however, no ones exactly sure what the exact science is, and same as whenever any people don't understand science, they come up for another reason for it, that reason being God personal preference!

Depends on the gun for me, using the ACR + Holo at the moment - headshot machine!

personally dont use optics they take up the space of more useful attachements . unless you really cant shoot with iron sights . i hated the scar iron sights but you just get used to it and its so much better with extended mags or a noob toob for campers

To be honest, none of the sights really do much for me. If it came to it, I found that the Red Dot was better for ADS (not as bulky so the peripheral view is better). I'd recommend staying away from the ACOG as much as possible! MW2 was my first encounter with online shooters - and I wasn't all that good - so I used it a fair bit at the start. Now, the restriction of movement and view way outweighs any benefit it might give your aim!

Personally, I prefer to stick with the iron sights. Stopping Power makes such a difference that it's impossible to leave off. And without a silencer, you're letting your position be known every time you hit the trigger! As a whole, I don't think the trade off between Bling with a scope and a silencer (a real must have!) and Stopping Power with the silencer just isn't worth it!

But maybe that's just me! :o

i use iron sights on pretty much every gun, except the m16. Usually go for extended mags on full auto guns, grip on LMG's and siliencer on the UMP.

Snipers, i just use FMJ, don't use them that often so dont have extended mags on them yet.

The AK is quite nice with a red dot tho, i like it when i pick one up.

All well and good but silencers decrease your power.

Bling is in the first slot, while Stopping Power is in the second. No trade off is necessary. You are losing either Scavenger, Marathon, Slight of Hand or One Man Army.

My bad! Sorry about that. I was typing this while I was meant to be studying so I got a little mixed up! I meant Sleight of Hand (specifically the Pro version). The difference in a one on one situations, when you can pull your sights up that split second earlier, is huge (really only realised this after watching a few Machinima videos on YouTube. I'd really recommend looking at some if you haven't. Their channel name is machinimarespawn). THEN the silencer comes into play because anyone in the vicinity with their back turned doesn't get a warning. Easy kills! :D Again, sorry for the mistake!

Slight of Hand Pro can be useful alright. I probably more regularly use Scavenger, as reloading on semtex, claymores, etc can be quite useful, and if you live long enough (or shoot too much), it's nice not too have to change gun.
