Not near needing the wood for our house but I have been quoted £26.95 a square yard for American smoked oak engineered wood (downstairs) and £20 a square yard for white oak semi solid (upstairs).

Would I get a better price than this or should I buy now?

    Just to confirm:

    These are sterling prices?
    What width are the boards?

Sterling without VAT. The boards are 6 inch.

You're not far off 40 euro per m2 when you add vat and the 20% exchange rate. I wouldn't be in any rush to buy unless you absolutey love the floor, there are always lots of sales on oak floors

Dont know if it's nationwide, but Brooks have a really good looking Oak Semi Solid at the moment (at least the one in Tullamore). The price was 27.95 per sq mt incl VAT but the guy said he would give it to us for 26 as we will require quite a bit for our build...

    Hi,

We got a quote from Brooks of approx €26/m2 for 175m2 oak 189mm wide , 14mm thick semi solid.

Is 14mm too thin? Has anyone got their flooring off them , would like to hear what you think.

    Cheers,

    Windyboy

    Barefoot flooring out in Ballymount.

They sell to the trade, but will also sell to the public.

We got our flooring there, actually managed to get it all at trade price.35 square meters of it.Cheapest of 10 different places we went to in and around Dublin.

210mm wide plank engineered white oak flooring.Mostly 5-7 feet long lengths.

22mm thick with a 6mm layer of oak for the top layer

14mm semi solid isnt leaving you much room when it comes to resanding and repolishing.

14mm would only mean maybe a 3mm top layer of real wood.Thats not much at all.
