Not Missing it

Was having huge problems connecting my iphone to iTunes

Tried many installs, restores etc but no joy.

Finally it worked, did a JB and (don’t know why) updated carrier settings.

The ability to do SMS disappeared. Restored again and it was back.

So guess that carrier checks for a JB and VF has a laugh and won’t install everything.....

Anyway, all is well and have not JB since.

the strange thing is....I don’t miss it, I thought I would but No.

The only thing I miss is SB settings,OS4 has mostly everything else, but then only to turn to Airplane Mode, but how often do I need to do that.

    Anyone else not miss JB

I have NEVER missed jailbreaking, simply because once multitasking came on iOS4 by default, I had no reason to jailbreak other then the Grooveshark app, which is now in the appstore. Hopefully they will upgrade it to multitasking and for the retena display though!

I had my phone jailbroken for about four days and I took it off. Saw little benefit from it, it drained battery life and the sheer volume of crap in Cydia just makes it overwhelming. It looked to me a bit like modding a car - a lot of effort to change things when at the end of the day it will still be the same car doing the same things that it does now. So why bother?

I didn't need to unlock the phone and have no need for tethering though so an unbroken OS causes me no problems and does not restrict me.

Sure, there is no way they could, could they? And even if they did, they would probably knock off a HUGE percentage of their PAYG users. Not worth it for them.

The people who don't miss jailbreaking are probably the people who didn't know how to maximise it's potential.

And I wish people would stop referring to it as if it's "wrong" to jailbreak and the people who do it are in some way ripping off apple.

You don't jailbreak, you dont miss it...so what?! Why the need to tell everyone?

Trust me. I am a very heavy user and know exactly how to maximise the potential of jailbreaking, having been jailbreaking since the very start, when we actually had to dive into the OS of the phone, manually playing with SSH and the like. Those were the good days... I just don't feel that the pros outweigh the cons anymore, now that most of the features I jailbroke for are provided by Apple.

And reading through the short thread, it seems that nobody has called it 'wrong' to jailbreak the phone.

You jailbreak, and you like it... so what?! Why the need to tell everyone? Because this is a forum, and people are looking for others who have shared experiences. There is nothing wrong with it.

The carrier doesn't check for a jailbreak.

So I wonder why SMS vanished, and then reappeared after full install.

I did a JB with JBME, would that have caused it ?

Some people in the jailbreak "community" seem to feel that an unbroken phone is nothing more than a glorified iPod and anyone who doesn't jailbreak is a technophobic charlatan.

So I don't see why other people shouldn't be allowed to say that jailbreaking isn't all it's cracked up to be :)

    Likewise, OP.

On thing I miss about a JB is SB Settings.

Not going thru the hassle for that.

This is my first iPhone, hence first JB. I find it great for SBSettings and themes. Although Cydgets not working with 4.0.1 right now I like the idea of having a bit of info on the lock screen- weather, email. And done nicely like the HTC clock & weather.

I don't understand why apple won't let people develop themes for the iPhone which could be downloaded from the app store. I just like a bit of customisation I guess. At the same time I wouldn't see myself frantically awaiting the next JB and if official apple firmware fixes any holes or problems I had with the phone I'd probably go with that.

There were a few issues when the JBME first came out. One of which was MMS disappeared, but it was fixed in later versions. I'm sure the Jailbreak was the problem if SMS was there before it, however I used the same JBME and have had no problems with my device. Seems to be varied issues across the board. I wouldn't give up on Jailbreaking because of this though. Maybe wait for the next one to come out and give it a go.

Well one reason for jailbreaking if you have an older version of the i-device is
On Wednesday, Apple (finally) released firmware 4.0.2, which patches the very large security holes exploited by @comex in the 2nd incarnation of jailbreakme.com. The only problem is they outright abandoned iPhone2G and iPod Touch 1G users! Even though Apple acknowledges in their security update the severity of these holes, they left iPhone2G and ipt1G owners high and dry — completely vulnerable to truly malicious variants of jailbreakme (these variants aren’t out yet, but they’re sure to come!).

Luckily for Apple, the Jailbreak community isn’t so callous. @saurik has been burning the midnight oil coding a Cydia package that will fix the holes for all devices and all firmware versions (even going back to version 2.x!). It will be released very soon, after some more testing is done.

    i would miss jb for:

    sbsettings
    5 icon dock
    5 row + 5 column

oh, and for the ability to try out apps before buying ;)

    I thought I would miss jailbreaking when I got my iP4 but I don't.

When I got my 3G i jailbroke it from the start.

Themes were nice as was the ability to change the sms tone, sbsettings and all the little tweaks.

But, it started to get tiresome. I had to wait for the dev team to give the go a head when new updates came out.

New updates for cydia app would cause conflicts with other cydia apps and the phone would crash.

I'm loving my iP4 even though it isn't jailbroken.
