Just thought I would post this link to some quality videos of a guy from Co. Antrim I think. Very professional with some great tips in his videos. Kept me entertained anyways!

thats the one reason i'd want an air rifle aswell, shootin crows and magpies out of the trees safely, after reading a post in the shooting section there now though it turns out it might be illegal...

I'm not sure on that one, can't find it in the wildlife act, but I have heard it mentioned before.

the Farmyard safety is my concern, It would be nice to shoot maggers out of trees as they are a general nuisance if you feed rolled barley to cattle

I suppose a .410 would be another option. The grandfather had one for years and although against bigger game at distances over 40 yards or so it was not great, a magpie @30 or so was toast!

Hey folks the derogation that J.R mentioned in the shooting forum is the legal stance and air rifles on birds are ok.

I have a weihrauch hw100 22 ft/lb pcp and its very good for magpies and grey crows.
What I find very effective is to shoot a magpie first or else keep one from the last day and lay it upside down with the wings spread out under the magpie decoy. The other ones think theres a fight on and show very little caution.
The air rifle gives great flexibility for shooting into trees if you know the lie of the land then you only have to worry about safety for a few hundred yards which you can easily see.

Great work, I have tried larsen traps, Not my cup of tea, more a shooter. Sorely tempted to ask the Local FO can i get an airrifle for magpies!!

Nice work there ! My local magpies have beaten me this year
I spent a few weeks in early summer trying to nail them but they are too wary ( years of persecution :D )
My problem is that they would not stay on the ground for more than a few seconds, I reckon I was too close to them ( 50m and camoflauged) so I'm going to get the rifle zeroed perfectly and hit a few small metal targets for practice before I get at them again in a few weeks. This time I'll attempt so longer range shots to let them relax next to the bait a bit more.

    Mac
